ModRN Health supports federal government’s development of a rapid response telehealth capability for Covid- 19

by Dec, 2020

ModRN Health is one of the teams supporting the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development  Command’s (USAMRDC) Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) for the rapid  development, deployment and testing of the National Emergency Tele-Critical Care Network (NETCCN).

NETCCN was born from the learned experience that, in short, there are simply never enough qualified  clinicians to provide care during large scale emergencies. NETCCN – a cloud-based, low-resource, stand alone health information management system with the capability of creating innumerable “virtual  critical care wards” via current handheld mobile devices – is already making a substantial impact in supporting COVID-19.

ModRN Health is one of the clinical teams providing medical expertise to NETCCN for COVID-19 hot spots. ModRN Health supported a hospital in western Puerto Rico from Nov 4 – Nov 17. Due to the  success of the pilot, the Puerto Rico hospital requested additional support from ModRN during December.

ModRN Health and its partners are assisting the teams supporting TATRC in refining strategies and  proving out new healthcare support models for pandemic and disaster related critical care shortages. Discussions are underway to implement program refinements as well as how to best support surging COVID 19 cases. The next focus areas for new NETCCN capabilities include:

1) Accelerating Medical Device Interoperability and Autonomy for integrating mechanical ventilators and/or infusion pumps to the NETCCN platform,

2) Technology in Disaster Environments Learning Accelerator to use real-time data to build continuous learning for improving disaster health support.

“COVID-19 has presented challenges for all of us where we can find ourselves overwhelmed, especially those working on the front lines of health care. It is a true honor for our team at ModRN Health to support our colleagues at hospitals and other areas dealing with surges of patients. Nothing is more fulfilling than seeing the relief on their faces as they realize that help has arrived.”
